The Story of MVP Guild: How It All Started
The gaming industry continues to evolve alongside Web 3.0. With the emergence of games such as Axie Infinity, The Sandbox, Gods Unchained, Ev.io and others, the way with which participants in the gaming ecosystem play, compete, and earn has been revolutionized. Today, competitive and leisurely gamers alike have the opportunity to own digital assets, called non-fungible tokens (NFTs), that allow them to expand the gaming experience- whether through access to in-game benefits, competitive rewards, or cryptocurrency gains.
This phenomenon paved the way for communities to develop around Web3. These communities, whether they’re guilds, DAOs, technology providers, or game developers, aim to support the growth of gaming and the growth of Web3 in general. Most importantly, these communities are able to inspire and connect more people into digital spaces and worlds often called collectively as the metaverse.
In 2021, R3IGN had a similar and bold vision in mind. Bringing together his roots in gaming and blockchain technology, he bootstrapped a scholarship program now known as the Metaverse Ventures and Platforms, Inc. (MVP). MVP, as the name implies, seeks out game enthusiasts and hones them into MVPs (Most Valuable Players) or gaming professionals. MVP believes that by making Web3 gaming accessible to everyone, and by creating a sustainable program for all participants, the community benefits from two things, first they are introduced to Web3 and blockchain technologies, and then second, they are one step closer towards making gaming a legitimate and respectable source of income. MVP has joined other trailblazers in paving the way for the metaverse by maintaining a portfolio of games and recruiting and nurturing players with competitive talent and skill.
MVP started with 100 scholars and eventually grew to managing over 1000 NFT accounts across multiple NFT games, with the help of angel investors and community partners. The scholars and eSports players in our community come from different backgrounds, each with their own story to tell about how Web3 and the gaming landscape has changed their lives for the better. At home, our players are able to assist their families financially because of their love for games. Web3 has also allowed them to connect and forge friendships with people who support the space, and grab opportunities they never thought possible. An example of this is the recently concluded AxieCon in Barcelona, Spain. While it was an excellent opportunity to showcase the Philippines’ strength in competitive gaming, it was also a chance for the players to travel abroad for the first time and obtain the digital financial footprint (i.e. register for IDs and open a bank account) that they needed to cross borders. These are some of the stories that have inspired us to continue doing what we do in this space.
When it comes to eSports, MVP prides itself with a roster of highly skilled and dedicated pro teams who excel in play-to-earn games such as Axie Infinity, Cometh, AxieDoll and Ev.io. Aside from representing the Philippines by sending its Axie Infinity pro team to AxieCon in Barcelona, MVP has also won back-to-back championships in local and international Axie Infinity tournaments. MVP is the eSports partner of Axie.gg, the first ever NFT gaming guild. Axie.gg is the home of Indes, the greatest star player in the history of Axie Infinity, as well as other top-tier players and investors who share the same vision as MVP. Together with Axie.gg, MVP also assists in organizing eSports tournaments through eSports 4 Everyone, a free-to-play tournament organizer for Web2 and Web3 games.
This is just the beginning of MVP’s journey as one of the best gaming communities not only in the Philippines but in the global scene as well.
